Fake It ‘Till You Make It

"Fake It 'til You Make it" brings together performance, dance and video art in a curatorial pairing between AnA Collaborations and Jennifer Laiwint. The event takes the term authenticity, and the many ways we strive for it, to task. What does authentic transformation look and feel like? Can we recognize it when it happens or achieve it while performing in highly constructed environments? “Fake It ‘Til You Make It” brings together artists who employ experimental strategies in various mediums to navigate ambiguous spaces between authentic expression and performance, documentary and drama

Like The Tides Performance

This is an excerpt from a performance staged during “Fake It ‘Til You Make it,” a video and dance event that Jennifer Laiwint co-curated in New York. In this piece, performers were embedded in the audience and asked to verbally respond to audio instructions. In the process, members of the audience who were not asked to participate decided to join in and a spontaneous group meditation occurred.
